Friday Jan 26, 2024
Welcome back to the show everyone!! In this episode we cover Klaus by Grant Morrison. In this 19th century-looking town, Klaus is an outsider, not yet the jolly Saint Nick we know in love. The town of Grimsvig is suffering under the tyrannical rule of Lord Magnus. The men of the town are sent to the mines every day for who knows what reason and no toys are allowed in Grimsvig. With nothing to play with, the fun and zest for life is being drained away from the kids of the town. Even throwing a rock can be seen as a playing with a toy. Klaus comes to town and refuses to let this continue. Will he succeed? What secrets does this town have? Why are the men working in the mines? Why can't the children have toys? How does Klaus become Santa? Find answers to these questions and more in this jolly holiday episode!

The Comic Panel: Age of Bronze

Paris. Helen. Achilles. Agamemnon. Odysseus. What do all these names have in common? They are characters from Homer's Illiad, and some of the main characters in the comic we are reading today, Age of Bronze. This comic is about a young man named Paris who grew up as a son of a farmer, and later learned that he was the son of a king. This king brought him back into the family, which only served to make him more arrogant. His newly discovered father sent him on a mission to rescue his father's sister, but Paris's arrogance wouldn't allow him to use his father's military might to capture an "old woman that no one cares about". Instead, he seduces and steals Helen of Troy, a woman that was married to another man. This started a whole chain of events that led to the infamous Trojan War. Learn about this and more in our review of the second book in our roman/greek history theme, The Age of Bronze by Eric Shanower

Tuesday Dec 05, 2023
Tuesday Dec 05, 2023
In today’s episode we cover the Kingstone Bible, a retelling of old Biblical stories told in the medium of comics. This book retells the story of creation, the story of Noah, and the story of Job. In the beginning there was nothing, and then God made everything. Adam and Eve, the first man and woman, fell from grace, setting the world on a dark path. So dark, that God felt he needed to flood the earth, which is why he tells Noah to build a boat. Finally, the story of Job, a well off man who had much material wealth as well as community around him and richness of character, but one day the devil took all that away from him and he had to wrestle with how God could allow this to happen. And in the end, God speaks. Enjoy our review of our third book in our history theme, the Kingstone Bible vol 1!
